The newest and most ambitious project to date, is an exciting initiative which is responsible for 5 preschools in Grabouw, 1 in strand and 1 in Stellenbosch area. It aims to contribute to meeting a critical community need – providing essential Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres for children (aged 3-6) who would otherwise not receive adequate foundation essentials in education. Providing a nurturing, caring and safe environment for children to survive, be physically healthy, mentally alert, emotionally secure, and socially competent and be able to learn.
The Early Childhood Development preschools focus on children from the most disadvantaged communities where children often come to school on empty stomachs. All schools have ownership which is shared with the community (they named the school and are in the board) to create more commitment and security in the area. They are provided with meals and get educated tri-lingual Afrikaans, English and Xhosa during their schooldays from 8.00 till 14.00 from Monday till Friday. In some cases the preschools have Grad R (age 5-6) just before the children are going to primary school.
Grabouw: 5 Preschools in disadvantaged areas in Grabouw communities
Strand: catering for the local community; providing an opportunity for children to receive a solid educational foundation
Preschool in Stellenbosch: serves mostly children of farmworkers in the Valley community of Stellenbosch. Providing quality preschool education to children who would, for the most part, have nowhere else to go while their parents are away at work.
Goal: Aiming for skills transfer next to leaving behind materials and methods that can be used in terms of sustainability within the education and wellbeing of young children.

Is it safe in the African country where I want to go?
Each country is different in terms of safety, but in the countries of our projects normally there is political stability and we are always in close contact with our partners about the situation. Crime differs from country to country and we therefore elaborate on this during our safety preparation before departure. We can never give guarantees, but of course we do everything to make your stay as safe as possible together with the local supervisors.
I would like to go to Africa alone (as a woman), is that possible?
Certainly, but one country/partner project is more suitable than the other. We are happy to give you personal advice on this.
How can I prepare safety wise?
Read about the safety in the country you are going to, also in our brochure. Take the safety advice during the last LGA interview very seriously. Always follow the advice of the local supervisors and rather be too careful than too naive!
Can I do a project with vulnerable children?
What is your policy to protect the rights of the child?
