AA community development and wildlife research organization, Swaziland was Founded in 2004. Combining internships/volunteer work in social development and education with adventure tours. Our builder is an experienced Swazi builder and we build according to Swaziland regulations. Our projects are generally small community projects and don’t necessarily include survey or design experience, or equipment. We mix cement by hand and make our own bricks wherever possible.
Project closed in November & December! Maximum 12 weeks (longer in combination with other country).
AA is a passionate and reputable company with over 40 full-time staff and a history of over 3,000 successful placements and experience in the industry. Help with hands on conservation, community, teaching, sports, building or marine voluntary projects. The AA Foundation in partnership with Care Points and our Social Projects strive to improve the well-being of Orphaned and Vulnerable children in Swaziland and the other project countries.
The Swazi Building project aims to assist these vulnerable children through building basic shelters, gardens, water systems and other physical structures needed at households and care points. Work with local builders in one of Africa's last remaining Monarchies where HIV/AIDS is decimating rural communities and leaving many orphaned children with inadequate shelters. Help build much needed infrastructure for orphaned and vulnerable children using local building materials and techniques.
Is it safe in the African country where I want to go?
Each country is different in terms of safety, but in the countries of our projects normally there is political stability and we are always in close contact with our partners about the situation. Crime differs from country to country and we therefore elaborate on this during our safety preparation before departure. We can never give guarantees, but of course we do everything to make your stay as safe as possible together with the local supervisors.
I would like to go to Africa alone (as a woman), is that possible?
Certainly, but one country/partner project is more suitable than the other. We are happy to give you personal advice on this.
How can I prepare safety wise?
Read about the safety in the country you are going to, also in our brochure. Take the safety advice during the last LGA interview very seriously. Always follow the advice of the local supervisors and rather be too careful than too naive!
Can I do a project with vulnerable children?
What is your policy to protect the rights of the child?
Challenge yourself by temporarily leaving your comfort zone
Make a difference via a local need-based project description
Work together with the local community for a better future
