Gain hands-on experience in public health, healthcare access and community engagement while working alongside local communities, healthcare professionals and partner organizations in with communities, clinics, hospitals, schools and other local partners. Contribute to ongoing projects through fieldwork, research, monitoring and evaluation, and health education.
MH is a locally rooted organisation working to improve access to quality and affordable healthcare in Tanzania. While micro health insurance remains an important part of its work, MH has developed into a broader organisation working across healthcare, digital innovation, research and community development. MH health projects are designed around locally identified needs and implemented in collaboration with communities, clinics, hospitals, schools and other local partners.
This participatory health project offers students and volunteers the opportunity to contribute to ongoing health research and programmes while gaining practical insight into the Tanzanian healthcare system. Participants work alongside local communities and healthcare professionals to better understand health needs, explore barriers to healthcare access and support initiatives that respond to local priorities.
Depending on their educational background, skills and interests, participants may contribute to community-based research, visit healthcare facilities, support health education activities or assist with monitoring and evaluation. The project emphasises meaningful community engagement, mutual learning and collaboration with local partners.
Goal: The goal is to contribute to more equitable and accessible healthcare in Tanzania while providing participants with meaningful practical experience in public health and community-based healthcare.
The project aims to create a two-way learning experience in which participants develop their professional and intercultural skills while learning from local communities and healthcare professionals. Participants are encouraged to contribute relevant knowledge, practical tools, educational materials or research outputs that can continue to benefit MH and its partners beyond their placement.
